Main Street provided interpretive master planning and preliminary experience and exhibit design for a proposed new history museum complex for the state of Montana, located on the capitol campus in Helena. Working in close collaboration with Montana Historical Society staff and other key stakeholders, as well as the members of our multidisciplinary design team, we developed plans for a multi-faceted facility that would include permanent and changing exhibition components, a research and reference library and archives, workspaces for the Society’s five divisions, and The Commons, an innovative multi-function public space that includes exhibits and interpretation, visit planning support, meeting rooms and an auditorium, and retail and food service components. More than a museum, the new Montana Heritage Center will be a high-profile showcase for the state’s commitment to stewardship of its cultural heritage and historic resources.
